How to Make a Travel Brochure Online

Picking up a travel brochure is the first step on a new and exciting journey for many, but what are the differences between brochures that captivate tourists and the ones that quickly end up in the bin? Often, it’s creativity, a thoughtful layout, and a crafty design.

In this blog post, you’ll learn how to make a travel brochure that inspires people to visit a destination. Discover what you should have in place before you start creating, and follow a quick tutorial to craft your own beautiful brochure.

4 Things You Need to Do Before Making Your DIY Travel Brochure

You can speed up the design process by making sure you take the time to prepare before you put different elements together.

Here’s what you need to do to set yourself up for success . . .

1. Complete Your Research

Unless you’re an expert in a particular travel destination, you’ll need to do some research before you can put your brochure together. You can do this by visiting the destination in person, asking others about their experience, or searching online for key points.

Remember, since you’re creating this brochure yourself, it’s important to make sure everything you come across in your research is correct before you take steps to include any of it. Fact check what you find before you continue the process.

2. Think Through Text

Once you finish the research stage, it’s time to gather all the information you have and think about what will actually make it into your brochure. There isn’t a lot of space on a tri-fold brochure, so consider what is most important for readers to know.

Then, it’s time to put some thought into how you can lay out those details so that it’s easy for people to consume. Yes, you’re making a DIY travel brochure, but it should still look professional and be helpful for readers.

If you have any knowledge about information design, this is the time to use it.

3. Consider the Imagery

Nothing captures the eye faster than a stunning image. If you have your own images to use, have them at the ready before you start designing. Otherwise, you can search for images on a stock image site to meet this requirement.

You may also want to look into other types of graphics, like illustrations and icons. Using a mix of images can make your design even more appealing and encourage the audience to keep reading.

4. Explore Templates

Don’t have years of experience in graphic design? Not a problem. You can use an online editor to find a template and easily make your own in minutes. That way, you don’t have to struggle to put an original design together.

How to Design a Brochure with Shutterstock Create

Making your own brochure in Shutterstock Create is simple. You can use our templates to put together a great design, even if you don’t have graphic experience.

Here’s how:

Get Your Canvas Ready

In Create, select Custom Size and enter 2550 pixels × 3300 pixels in the box that pops up. This will create a canvas that’s 8 inches x 11 inches, which is the standard size for a brochure.

Determine Your Starting Point

Templates sidebar open in Create editor

From here, you can search templates or continue on with a blank canvas. You’ll have access to thousands of fonts, graphics, textures, effects, and color combinations to pick from.

If you decide you want to start with a template, simply click Templates and select your favorite.

Blank canvas options are best for those with a clear vision in mind. If you don’t have one, sticking with a template layout is your best bet.

Make It Your Own

Create lets you replace a template’s images with your own photos and text. You can also adjust fonts, change colors, and add effects.

Just click on any element to make your adjustments and see what options are available to you in the toolbar on the left side of the editor.

Add or Swap Images

Download Your Design

Now you can share your work. Simply click the Download button in the top-right corner to save it to your device, or export directly to social media or email.

How to Print Your Brochure Design

To print your brochure and turn your work into a physical form, you’ll need to save it to your device first. To do that, after you click the download button, select from JPG, PNG, or PDF file formats. Once you save your brochure design, you’re almost ready to print.

Before you go any further, make sure you think about the grams per square meter of your paper. Typical printer paper won’t be the right weight to create a true brochure, and it’s easy to damage. Instead, choose something that’s 130-150 GSM to get the level of thickness that people expect from this type of asset.

Open the file on your device and print it as you would any other document. If your design has content on both sides, you may need to follow on-screen instructions to ensure that everything comes out the way you want it to.

Now that you know how to make a travel brochure, it’s your turn! Use this post as inspiration to put your own creative spin on this effective promotional tool.

You might just inspire someone’s next relaxing vacation or big adventure.
